The World Hates You So We Are Getting A New ‘It’!

Stephen-Kings-It

Hey you know that movie that made everyone hate clowns? In fact it still makes you feel a bit ‘off’ just to look the picture of the ‘fun guy’ above.  Well guess what? After years of debate it looks like the reboot of ‘It’ is moving forward.  That’s right, so just when kids were starting to feel alright about clowns again they went and cast Bill Skarsgård as the new creepy makeuped menace.  Here is a pic of the fella:

Yeah just imagine that mug with wild red hair and fangs whispering, “you’re next”.  That is just good old family fun right there.  I think you should let your kids watch it early and often.  I know I watched it behind my parents back a few times and I am completely normal.  Right? Anyway, I am sure ‘It’ will all be super terrifying until you learn that Pennywise the clown is just a spider in the sewers that can be killed with a slingshot.  Oh I am sorry, did I spoil a movie and a book from forever ago?  Look, I am just trying to put the kids’ minds at ease here.  They should be scared of giant sewer spiders and not scared of clowns.  Look for the new ‘It’ to be filming soon and for it not to live up to the original.

AMD Is In Trouble!

AMD-Full-hd-Wallpaper

Yesterday AMD had their big Computex product announcement, and it was not great.  Last month NVIDIA launched two amazing video cards: The GeForce GTX 1080 which blows every other video card out of the water, and the GeForce GTX 1070 which for under $400 is as fast or faster than anything in their pervious generation.  It was an amazing month for NVIDIA, so what was AMD’s response? A card that has the same speed as their cards from two generations ago.  Sure it will be cheap, starting at $200, but that doesn’t instill a lot of confidence that their new architecture has a lot of head room.

Then on their processer side they announced that their long awaited follow up to the ageing FX line exists.  They even held one up, but it will not be out for awhile.  This is just days after Intel announced their new faster and more efficient chips.  It is great that their new chips will have tons of cache and now do hyper-threading, but I would like to know when I can buy one and about how much they will set me back.  Not that at some point in the future that a chip may come out.

Then to top it all off there are rumors that all the video card guys want to jump ship to Intel because AMD’s upper management doesn’t care about the graphics division.  My take on that is that AMD is just out of money and time, so they can’t care.  Especially when the new card is so slow the only way they can sell it is to sell it cheap.

All of this displeases me greatly.  I have loved both AMD processors and ATi Radeon graphics cards from way back.  Heck I put their kit in my latest rig, so to see them struggling to get product out the door is hard to watch.  Intel and NVIDIA need competition to keep innovating, and AMD was that competition.  If AMD falls I am not sure who will or even could take their place.  Not to mention fans like me will be more than a little sad to see them go.

You Should Buy Overwatch!

overwatch

You should totally buy Overwatch.  I know I keep saying it is overpriced, but I have decided that for something this well balanced and fun, I was wrong.  It is totally worth the $60.  Though if you are going to buy it on PC get the $40 version.  The extra skins don’t make the game worth $20 more, and I think that was my hang up for buying Overwatch for consoles.  We didn’t get the option to spend less for things we don’t need, or that we will earn anyway as the game progresses.

Still there is definitely well more than enough gameplay to justify the asking price, and every time I get a little bored I switch characters and the game completely changes.  Even with 21 starting heroes none of them are throwaways.  Well maybe Bastion, I am not one of those people that think he is too overpowered, but it is just that sitting in one place and not doing anything is not fun.  Sure at some point you will probably get one epic kill streak with a shot a getting the ‘Play of the Game’, but it is a long wait.

What is even more astonishing is that I am having fun playing this game without my friends.  None of them have picked it up yet, so I have been left to play this game with random strangers.  Normally this would be the death of a multiplayer game for me, but I am having a blast without them!  The game is just that good.  Blizzard has made yet another classic, and I hope that they keep adding to this wonderful game.  Who knew that the studio who conquered MOBAs (Heroes of the Storm), CCGs (Hearthstone), ARPGs (Diablo), MMOs (World of Warcraft), and RTSs (StarCraft) would be so good at FPSs as well.  I wonder what genre they will tackle next.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Is In Trouble?

Star-Wars-Rogue-One

Apparently, according to Page 6, Disney Execs are in a panic because Rogue One: A Star Wars Story isn’t testing well, and the movie is undergoing extensive reshoots.  Disney of course is saying that reshoots are part of any major blockbuster, and they just want to make the film as good as possible, but with only about six months left until the movie comes out that doesn’t leave a lot of time for shooting, editing and added special effects.

Granted Disney is a on a bit a hot streak with their flicks, so I am inclined to cut them a little slack, and saying a movie is in trouble will get your site more hits than saying everything is just peachy-keen, but Disney is cutting it close, so hopefully these reshoots are tweaks and not entirely new scenes.  I guess we only have to wait a few months to find out how things will turn out, but I have my fingers crossed because that first trailer was pretty great!

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Does Live Action Trailers Right!

I usually don’t like live action video game trailers.  They don’t show the action properly, and like with Halo 5 none of what they show represents anything that happens in the game.  Thankfully Deus Ex: Mankind Divided went a different route.  Instead of showing live action versions of the heroes and villains they made like a little mini-movie that sets up the universe you are going to play the game in.  It lets you see the fear and disorder that the last game caused.  It is sad and moving, while getting me excited to play in that world, so bravo Deus Ex: Mankind Divided marketing team you made a live action trailer work!
