Windows 10?!

windows-10

Well Microsoft threw us all for a loop yesterday by announcing Windows 10.  It wasn’t surprising that they announced a new Windows OS, but that they skipped 9.  Some are speculating that since it means “Suffering” in Japanese, “No” in German, and bad luck in China that 10 is a nicer number to market.  They did the same thing when they skipped build 13 for Office, not that anybody paid attention to that.  It also catches them up with OSX on Mac.

Other than that everything else went as planned.  The start menu is coming back.  Windows RT and Windows Phone are merging, so there will be only one version of the ARM OS, and from the pictures it also looks like Xbox One will be joining the party in some way.  So other than the name it is exactly what people predicted.

If you want to try out Windows 10 they are releasing a Technical Preview today around noon Pacific Time.  You can get it by clicking here.  It goes without saying that this is an early beta, and you should only install it if you are willing to deal with numerous issues.  I will probably be giving it a shot, and I of course will let you know what I think!

Gotham Gets Better!

gotham

Last night’s Gotham episode “Selina Kyle” built on the solid pilot.  Without having to introduce all the characters this show really got to be the over-the-top procedural that it should be.  This episode is about kids getting snatched off the street and shipped overseas, and the only person who seems to care is James Gordon.

I am a little worried that Gotham is already a little too corrupt, and that it might need Batman a little sooner than young Bruce Wayne can don the cowl, but at least this series shows how bad the city is.  They still like to drop the names of Bat-villains a little too much, I am not sure I need many more than the ones they have already introduced, but it sounds like one of the bad guys they used in Arrow may soon be making an appearance.  I am curious how they will handle that, or if they are just having some fun at the audience’s expense.

I was worried about this show, but it looks like it is delivering on its potential, and we just have to wait a little longer to see how The Flash, Constantine, and iZombie turn out.  If even one of those shows is good DC will have a solid TV line up this year.

Gotham Gets TV Season Off To A Good Start!

gotham

I was a little skeptical of the TV show Gotham, but it has at least got me interested enough to keep watching it.  The show follows new Detective James Gordon as he tries to fight crime in the completely corrupt Gotham City.  His first big case is of course the murders of Thomas and Martha Wayne, and he is in way over his head.

I think they got the tone of this show right.  Thanks to its comic book roots it is crazy and a little over the top, but it still manages to take itself seriously so that it doesn’t seem like a farce.  It did suffer a little bit because they tried to introduce too many characters, so it didn’t really ever focus on what was going on enough.  For instance they kept showing young Selina Kyle, but she never really did anything,  Next week’s episode is named after her, so maybe it will make more sense.

The show seems to have a good cast, and the sets bring Gotham to life.  We will see if they can build off this episode in to something really good, or if they get lost in the weeds, and it becomes yet another canceled FOX TV show.  For now it looks like FOX is my home for Monday nights.

DC Doing Full Court Press For Justice League!

justice league unlimited

Bruce Timm who has brought us several amazing DC Universe cartoons over the years including the great Batman: The Animated Series is hard at work on an animated movie Justice League: Gods & Monsters.  The movie should be out in 2015.  Now one thing from Bruce Timm is good news, but what is great news is that they are also producing a short prequel series on Machinima to go with it.

I couldn’t believe it when Warner Brothers let Timm step down from his role at with DC, but it looks like they are bringing him back, and he gets start the hype machine for the Batman V Superman by reintroducing us to the Justice League.  I am very excited for a new DCU movie and series.  DC has needed something since Justice League: Unlimited went off the air.

Let’s Cast TNT’s Teen Titans!

Teen-Titans

So I guess TNT decided that if every other channel was getting a DC show then they needed one too.  Still the one they picked surprised me, Teen Titans.  This shouldn’t be that shocking since there have now been two popular cartoons based off this property, but a show about butt kicking teenagers seems like an odd choice for the serious TNT.  To help them out I thought I would cast it for them.

Nightwing/Robin: Liam James

I know I already used him for Billy in the Shazam movie, but he could use some steady work, and he was super good in The Way Way Back, so I am using him again.  Deal with it.  I think he has what it takes to lead this group of young justice bringers.

Starfire: AnnaSopia Robb

AnnaSophia-Robb_

Yeah I know she is from The Way Way Back too, but I forgot about that when I picked her.  Then when I remembered she was in that movie it made me like this choice even more.  She is a talented young actress and would have no problem being the most powerful member of the group…… unless they add a Green Lantern.

Beast Boy: Thomas Brodie-Sangster

Thomas-Brodie-Sangster

Beast Boy was hard because he had to be funny and be able to handle the action.  Luckley for me Thomas just ended his stint on Game of Thrones (sorry if that is a spoiler), and I know he is funny because he is also Ferb from Phineas and Ferb!

Raven: Elizabeth Giles

Elizabeth-Gillies

Really I just picked her because she has a lot of experience and is brunette.   She has that superhero look, and I could see her casting a few spells.

Cyborg: Michael B. Jordan

Michael B. Jordan

Yeah I know he is in the new Fantastic Four movie, but those always suck, so I am finding him more work.  He is a great actor, and I think he would do a great job.

There.  This would be a show I would watch!  I don’t have expanded cable, so I would have to watch it on Netflix, but I so would.
