The Force Is Strong With Star Wars: Rebels!

star-wars-rebels

I missed the launch of Star Wars: Rebels because I don’t have Disney XD, and I don’t see myself paying for it any time soon, but I will say that Star Wars: Rebels is good enough to have me considering it.  I was upset that Disney canceled the Star Wars: The Clone Wars cartoon, or as it is known in geek circles the best thing to come out of the Prequel Trilogy, but by returning to the time of the original trilogy Disney has got me excited for The Force Awakens!

The plot is simple, an orphan boy Ezra Bridger falls in with a group of smugglers, but he soon finds out that they are more than what they seem, and the Jedi aren’t all gone after all.  I know the Jedi part was a minor spoiler, but since they spoil that in the trailers, I feel like I can let that slip as well.

So far, I am not a huge fan of the look of the cartoon, but I am liking the characters and the tone.  Which is far more important, and after watching the show in motion for awhile, the look has started to grow on me.  I am genuinely interested to see what else is going on in the Empire besides Luke and Leia.  I am also wondering if we will see these characters pop up in a certain new movie coming out next Christmas.

If Disney XD was still airing Tron: Uprising I would be calling Comcast right now to get the Disney XD channel.  As it stands now, I will patiently be waiting for them to re-air episodes on the plain ‘ol Disney Channel (like how I watched show for this post) or Netflix (please don’t make me wait for Netflix!).  If Disney can build on the success of these two cartoon shows, we should all be in for a treat with The Force Awakens!

Orphan Black Continues To Be Great!

Orphan-Black-Season-1

While I have my problems with Comcast, I was quite happy that they let me watch season two of Orphan Black for free even though it aired last May.  For those of you that have not watched the show you are really missing out.  This is one of my favorite new shows.  BBC America (USA)/Space (Canada) have a winner on their hands.

Much like last year, Sarah Manning is continuing to look for answers about her past with the help of her clone sisters.  Well most of them try to help anyway.  The latest clone she has discovered, Rachel, actually works for The Dyad Institute, and Rachel is doing everything in her power to bring the clones back under company control.

What I love about the writing of this show is that they are actually letting us figure things out.  There isn’t one big secret, and they are stretching it out for forever.  There are a ton of secrets, so you constantly feel like you are learning and progressing.  It also helps that there are only ten episodes a season, so there isn’t any filler.

Tatiana Maslany continues her tour de force performance as Sarah Manning and the rest of the clones.  She gives all the sisters such unique personalities that you never confuse them, but she is never overacting.  If she isn’t nominated for an Emmy this year it will prove that the award has no meaning.  The rest of the cast continues to be good, but this show is all about the clones, and Maslany is playing the roles perfectly.

I can’t wait for May for season three to come out.  I need to know what happens next.  It is a great time to be a geek with so much good Sci-Fi all over the place.  If you are not watching Orphan Black you should be.

Observations About Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer!

RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER

I watch the Rankin/Bass classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer every year, but I am usually decorating, or doing other Christmasy sorts of things.  This year I really watched it, and I have a few observations:

  1. The people of the North Pole are jerks.  All of them.  Santa is the worst.  Telling a little baby deer that he will never pull the sleigh with his red nose.  I wanted to punch that old tubby dude.
  2. Apparently all you need to be a dentist is to read a book and practice on dolls.  That is all Hermey does and he gets his own office at the end of the movie.  We are on to you dentists!
  3. Does (a deer, a female deer) are not to be listened to.  They want to help or tell you something important it is cool just to tell them it is mans work and move on. Even though last time I checked deer aren’t men they are bucks so…
  4. How do they know that the Abominable Snowman hates Christmas?  Have they asked him?  I think he is just hungry, and deer are delicious.
  5. None of the toys on the Island of Misfit toys are bad.  They all have minor problems, and some aren’t even problems.  I think they are all there because King Moonracer the griffin is lonely.
  6. On that note King Moonracer can fly, why doesn’t he just tell Santa about the island himself?  He is a pretty crappy King.
  7. So Rudolph is out by himself for months, and his family is out looking for him for that long as well?  The people of the North Pole really are jerks if they didn’t send out a search party for the family.
  8. When Yukon Cornelius knocks the Abominable over the cliff, no one checks on him even though two of them can fly.  Rudolph and Donner are like, “Welp lets get these women home”.  It would have taken like two minutes.
  9. Lastly, why does Rudolph’s nose make noise?  It is so odd.  Shiny sure, but it sounds like a bad florescent bulb.  That is why I wouldn’t hang out with him.

Well there are my observations.  I hope you had fun reading them.

Flash VS Arrow!

flash-vs-arrow-poster

I finally got around to watching the big Flash/Arrow crossover, and I have to say that they work much better together than they do apart.  Which is impressive since they are pretty darn good apart.  The Arrow makes The Flash feel more grounded, while The Flash lets the Arrow have a little fun.  They are like peanut butter and honey: they are good apart, but better together.  This makes me wish they would listen to my idea about having a Justice Society show.  These guys could team up every week with some of their best friends.  It would be a lot of fun.

Though I have to admit Brandon Routh has been killing it as Ray Palmer, so maybe he will give Arrow that sense of fun it needs once he learns to shrink as The Atom.  That means The Flash will have to find someone serious to hang out with.  Hey maybe Constantine could come hang out if his show doesn’t get picked up for a second season.  Magic and Metahumans, that would be a crazy show.

Marvel Casting News!

benedict-as-dr-strange

I said once Marvel had some news I would talk about it, so here we go!  It is official Benedict Cumberbatch is Doctor Strange.  I really like Cumberbatch, but I have a hard time envisioning him as the Master Magician.  Still Marvel has been on such a role lately it is hard for me to question them too much.  We will get to see him suit up in two Thanksgivings, or November 2016 for those outside of the good ‘ol USA.  Now to TV news!

Krysten-Ritterjessica_jones

Marvel and Netflix have found their Jessica Jones the superhero set’s private eye!  She will be played by Krysten Ritter.  You may remember her from Don’t Trust The B In Apartment 23, or maybe not since it was canceled.  Still, she is talented and funny, so she seems like a good choice.  Next up:

mike-colterLuke_Cage

Mike Colter from the new Halo show is rumored to be the new Luke Cage for Marvel and Netflix’s 3rd show after Daredevil and Jessica Jones.  I don’t know if they could have picked anyone more perfect for the role.  Even if this one is just a rumor it needs to come true because he looks exactly like I picture Luke Cage in my mind.

If feels good to be talking about Marvel.  I hope this Marvel news train keeps on rolling.  We are still waiting on that Ant-Man trailer!
