How About Some Comic Book Media News?!

Let’s start off with some casting news shall we? (Thanks to Hypersonic55 for the image by the way)

Netflix Casts The Punisher!

Jon Bernthal formally known as Shane from AMC’s The Walking Dead will now be Frank Castle in Netflix’s Daredevil. After two failed Punisher movies I guess the Disney execs think maybe TV is the right place for the man who wants to kill the mob. I liked Tom Jane as The Punisher, but his movie was terrible, and I think Jon will do a good job. He should be an excellent counterpoint to the anti-killing hero Daredevil. We will also get to see some good bullets versus ninja action!

DC/Warner Brother Drops The Batman V Superman Synopsis!

With Batman V Superman about nine months away DC thought the time was right to drop the plot synopsis for the flick. It is pretty much what we thought, but here you go anyway!

Fearing the actions of a god-like super hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

Like I said, it is pretty much what everyone was expecting. The question is how long will they fight each other before teaming up?

First Justice League: Gods and Monsters Short Released!

Bruce Timm said Justice League: Gods and Monsters was going to be dark, but I wasn’t prepared for how dark. This is quite the trip down the rabbit hole, but it is interesting, and it does live up to its title: Twisted. Have a look for yourself:

It is not the cartoon we are used to that is for sure, but it is kind of a fun take. We will see how it pans out over the next few episodes before the movie launches.

Shmee Has A Wake For Constantine!

With no good news coming out for weeks it was just a matter of time before we got the word, and yesterday the executive producer of Constantine dropped the bomb via twitter that the show was officially canceled. It is was hard to see a good show die, but it is better knowing than an endless cycle of hope some random TV station is going to pick it up.

If there is any bight spot hopefully this now means that Constantine will show up at some point in the 18 million other DC TV shows coming out this fall, and if he does hopefully it will be Matt Ryan. His supernatural know how would definitely come in handy. I could see him and Arrow being pretty good friends. Well as friendly as those two get anyway. NBC gave me one less reason to watch their station, and they don’t have very many left.

Community Season 6 Comes To An End!

I can’t believe it is over. Thirteen episodes just go so fast, and when they were as good as they were in season six of Community it is sad to see them go indeed. Everyone was on their game, and the new characters added to the group while still having their own voice. Season six of Community might be one of my favorite sitcom seasons of all time. We will see how sitcom history plays out, but everyone involved still deserves a big hand even if they just end up on the list of greatest sitcoms of all time, and not on the top.

The final episode was a great way to end it too. With every person choosing how the “next season” would play out. It was funny and touching in a way that the forced “growth” episodes of season four the could never hope to pull off, and if it was the last episode of the series, it was a great place to end it. Plus the episode may have ended on one of the greatest Community style meta jokes of the entire series, or ever. A wonderful way to drop the mic on the way out. Though after making it six seasons they kind of need to do a movie now. There is almost no choice. They started the six seasons and a movie rallying cry, now they have to follow through.

I was doubtful that the Yahoo! season would be any good, but I have loved every second of it. Sure there were of couple of episodes that weren’t perfect in the middle, but over all this was a great year, and I look forward to sitting in a theater and watching the movie to cap it all off. Good job everyone! You made the internet better for thirteen weeks, and that is something to celebrate.

Arrow Season Three Is In The History Books!

Yeah I know that Arrow ended before The Flash, but I actually finished The Flash on time, so I decided to review it while it was still relevant. The Arrow on the other hand has no such luck! This was an odd season. On one hand we got The Atom and he made the show lighter, and on the other hand we got Ra’s al Ghul who made the show darker. I think this made season three a bit uneven. It couldn’t decided what it wanted to be.

I personally like the darker tone. It melds well with Arrow being a stand in for Batman, and it sets it apart from its little brother The Flash. When Arrow tries to get funny it seems to loose its footing, so I think it is good that The Atom and Co are off on their own thing next year. Hopefully that will let the Arrow get back to his brooding in the shadows. We will see. It will be also interesting to see if Mr. Queen will have to fight more Metahumans or not. I am guessing yes. That will change up the show quite a bit since he will be fighting people much more powerful than himself.

I wonder if the writers can bring the focus back to Arrow next year, or if they get too distracted writing three other shows. I hope they can because the show that started the comic book TV craze should be in the running for the best, and not just an also-ran. See you next year Oliver!

The Flash Finishes His First Run!

Season one of The Flash is over, and it has been a great season! I have to say, I thought it might loose its way in the middle of the season, but the it found its way back in the end. It had one of the best end of season cliff hangers I have seen in a long time. I am not sure how they are going to get out of that mess unless they get a little help from Supergirl.

It is clear the writers don’t have the same problem with killing people off that Marvel does. Unlike Arrow though the deaths didn’t feel gratuitous, and they added weight to the story, but as we have seen that doesn’t mean they stay dead. I mean they introduced the Lazarus Pits for crying out loud. Death might have a hard time sticking in this universe.

I can’t wait to see what they have planned with season two, and how The Flash is going to interact with Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, and possibly Supergirl. With this much of the DC universe revealed there are no limits on the storylines they can explore. Who cares if the DC movies don’t turn out, because their TV has been excellent.
