Why Hasn’t Season 2 Of Supergirl Been Announced? Money!

supergirl

Supergirl had quite the year.  It started off slow and way to cheesy, but it ended up being my favorite superhero show.  However, despite solid but not great ratings CBS has not yet decided to pick up the show for a second season because they feel it is too expensive, and they want Warner Brothers to slash the budget.  Of course with the current budget the special effects on Supergirl have still been dodgy at times, so Warner Brothers doesn’t want make them any worse.

The Wrap is saying that if Warner Brothers does have to cut the budget that they would want to move the show to the CW were they would have more control over the future of the series, and so they could further integrate the Girl of Steel in to the Arrowverse.  Though both sides like the show on a major network, so getting it renewed on CBS is still plan ‘A’.

I honestly don’t care either way as long as Supergirl comes back next year.  While I like the higher production values CBS’s money brings to the table, The Flash crossover proved how much fun it would be to have Kara in the Arrowverse.  Maybe there could be some sort of Crisis on say multiple Earths to make her a permanent Earth One resident?  The end of May is quickly approaching, so we will not have to wait too much longer to find out Supergirl’s fate.

Star War: Rebels Is Why We Need Shorter TV Seasons!

star-wars-rebels

I know Rebels ended over a month ago, but I had to catch up on my DVR, and today is Star Wars day, so the timing is perfect!  Star Wars: Rebels had a 15 episode season last year and it most mostly great.  This season they got a full order of 22 episodes, and there was a lot more filler.  Don’t get me wrong there was still some really good stuff in there, but not every episode was must watch, and worse still it seemed like some of the episodes covered things we had already seen before.

That being the case the season finale was still amazing.  It tied in threads from The Clone Wars, Knights of the Old Republic, The Force Awakens and of course the original trilogy, and it all made sense!  It also managed to make the call to the Dark Side truly seem alluring.  If it is the way to gain more power and save your friends why wouldn’t you?  To the uninitiated it seems a lot more helpful than being a non-feeling stuck-up do-nothing jerk of a Jedi.

Star Wars: Rebels would be a better series if they cut out all the fluff.  If this was a focused 10-12 episode series it could be one of the best on TV.  Though I understand the reasoning for its longer run with Star Wars being so hot right now, so Rebels is a money printing machine, and like the finale proved it can still wow its audience.  I just wish that was every episode, not every other.  Who knows maybe they will find a little more meat next season and I will be asking for even more episodes, but I doubt it.

Between Game Of Thrones And Orphan Black The Kings Of Spring Are Back!

Orphan-Black-Season-1The Spring TV premiers have sprung, and they are back in a big way!  Orphan Black seems more focused.  So far it has gotten rid of a lot of random side story lines and is focusing on just one weird one: What are those worm things?!!!!!  No one seems to know but I can’t wait to find out.  I am hoping for micro-clones.  The worm steals all the DNA it needs and then it turn in to a copy of that person!  Maybe not, but this is a show about cloning, so it would seem that it would have to be cone related.

Game of Thrones is back and managed to be both shocking and not terrible.  I am not sure they can keep this up.  They love doing pointlessly terrible things to nice and not-so-nice people all the time, so I think this was just the calm before the storm, but I am really pulling for them.  This show could use a few more good things happening.  At least until the White Walkers kill everyone.

With all of fall’s shows in wrap-up/sweeps mode it is nice to have a few shows coming back on the air.  They have started strong, let’s see if they can keep up their momentum!

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Is Back! The World Is Safe … For Now …

UNBREAKABLE-KIMMY-SCHMIDT-

With Iran and North Korea testing out nukes, and Donald Trump running for President of the United States of America it is great to have a new season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt on Netflix.  Her unswerving optimism despite all the terrible things that happen to her just makes me feel good.  Who knows maybe we could survive a Trump Presidency, and if not Kimmy would remind us there are always the recall or impeachment processes, or if our enemies do launch nukes we have all been playing a lot of Fallout 4 to prepare ourselves for the nuclear apocalypse.

I am not sure that Kimmy Schmidt season two has been as good as season one, but I just feel better watching it, and that has got to count for something!  If you haven’t watched Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, you really should.

The Finale For The Magicians Was … Wow!

the-magicians-1050x700

It has been a long time since a TV show has given me nightmares, but the season finale of The Magicians did just that.  There has not been a show like The Magicians that has managed to go between being so light and airy and so grim and dark so effortlessly.  It keeps you laughing until it horrifies you.  Had you told me that The Magicians was a horror series after the fist couple of episodes I wouldn’t have believed you, but that is exactly what it is: Horror pretending to be Harry Potter, and just so we are clear, I like it.

Unlike The Walking Dead, who’s cliffhanger felt like a dirty trick, The Magicians’ cliffhanger felt earned.  They promised a showdown with The Beast, and they delivered one.  The fact it did not go how just about anyone planed or surmised is credit to the writers.  I can’t wait for next year to find out how they get themselves out of the mess they are in.

The SyFy Channel has really managed to turn their programming around.  Between The Magicians and The Expanse, they are delivering real quality original programming.  Not to mention thanks to shows like Killjoys and Dark Matter SyFy is finally living up to its name.  I went from watching nothing on the SyFy Channel a year ago to having three must watch shows on that station.  That is quite the feat.  I hope they can keep it up!
