I Am Not Sure What To Think About Far Cry Primal

So the fact that Ubisoft is releasing a new Far Cry game is not surprising.  Far Cry 4 was the most successful game of the franchise thus far, but the direction they are taking with Far Cry Primal is surprising.  Yes it is another open world first person game, but it is not a shooter per say because there are no guns.  This game takes place during the stone age, so you may get bows and arrows or spears, but for the most part it looks like you will be hitting and stabbing your way to victory.  So I guess that makes it a FPS, but now the ‘S’ stands for stabber.

Another strange fact is that Far Cry Primal is being dropped in February of next year without any real marketing push or year long hype train.  That is usually not a great sign, but if they were worried about it, why release it at all.  They have enough money to shelve it or retool it.  They last thing they want is another Assassins Creed Unity fiasco.  Though if the turns out, I will be quite interested.  There are not a lot of games that take me back to the stone age to fight mammoths and saber tooth tigers.  I guess we will see how this all comes together the 23rd of February.  I will keep my fingers crossed.

I Love Games With Couch Co-Op!

Divinity Original Sin: Enhanced Edition is launching with couch co-op!  That is pretty awesome!  Sadly for them it is coming out on the same day as Halo 5, but it will put the game on my radar for sometime in 2016.  More games need this feature.  Though it looks like it is becoming more of a rarity, again see Halo 5.

Hitman Is Going To Stalk Differently In 2016!

hitman-2016

For those of you that follow my site, or just know me, you know that I love the Hitman games.  Probably more than I should, so while I was disappointed that the new game ‘Hitman’ was delayed until March 2016, I was intrigued by their new sales strategy.  The game will be released with quite a few missions and their online Contracts mode, but for $35 digital only.  Then you will be able to download other missions as you go, or you can pay $60 up front and then get everything.  You will just have to wait to download the missions, season pass style, or if you can wait even longer, the disc will come out some time after that and it will contain all the content.

For me an episodic Hitman makes perfect sense.  Hitman was never about the grand stories, it was a finding a way to get that prefect hit.  So if they release a lot of good missions than I am in (not that I wouldn’t be anyway).  I hope the missions are fun ones, and that they continue to release them for quite some time.  You will see me (or not) stalking in the shadows come March 2016!

Hey I Completed The Witcher 3 Main Quest!

It has been a long road, but I figured I would give my final thoughts on the The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt now that I finally completed it.  It was pretty darn great!  It drags a little bit in the end of the second act to the beginning of the third, but it is a wild ride to the finish.  It really ties up all those loose story lines from not only this game but the second game as well.  It doesn’t lean on the events of The Witcher 2 too much, but if you have played that game it is nice that this one at least makes all that effort pay off.

Story wise I am not sure where they will go with The Witcher 4.  It seems like everything has been building to this game.  I am sure they will think of something, but we can’t go back to Geralt having amnesia and starting all over again like in the first Witcher game.  He also went toe to toe with the greatest mythical fighting force in the Witcher universe (it is in the title so it is not a spoiler) in the Witcher 3, so he can’t go back to being a weakling again.  They have kind of wrote themselves in to a corner (it is a really nice corner!).

My hope is that they go full Elder Scrolls or Dragon Age with the Witcher 4, and have Geralt start training his replacement.  That way you can be any type of witcher you want, and not be stuck being Rivia’s most famous monster hunter.  To be fair Geralt is pretty awesome, but it would be fun to be someone else in this beautiful world that CD Projekt Red has created (for video games anyway).  Whatever they do I am sure it will fun, and with all the enjoyment I got out of the Witcher 3, I will be there to put my money down.

The Holiday Game Release Cycle Needs To End!

fallout-4-logoFall is here so you know what that means: every game company will try and release their games in the next three months.  I mean what the heck.  Just this month we started off with Mad Max and Metal Gear Solid 5.  Then a week later Forza 6 arrived, and then next month is Halo 5.  After that my life ends when Fallout 4 comes out.  Sorry Rise of the Tomb Raider or COD: Black Ops 3, you will have to wait three months for me to come out of my Vault.

That doesn’t even take in to account top shelf expansions for big games like Destiny or The Witcher 3.  Speaking of The Witcher, do we really need more stuff to do this soon?  The game has 200 hours of content.  I bet there are only like five guys saying, “hey I needs more Witcha’ ova’ here!”  I am happy for those guys, but me?  I am just trying to finish the game as quickly as possible (I am like 65 hours in) so that I will be ready for Halo 5.

That is the problem with this season.  There isn’t enough time to play all these games, and when one or two of them fail whole game studios will get wiped out.  It isn’t fair to me the consumer, and it isn’t fair to the people making the games.  We need to break out of this cycle.  Movies have shown in the last few years that good movies can launch any time and be successful, and I think games are now starting to be the same way.  The Witcher 3 which I mentioned earlier came out in May, but it still sold 6 million copies.  As matter of fact the May release probably helped it because there were less games to choose from.

This Holiday I will only be buying two games for myself, and with all the great games to choose from that is a shame.  If only more companies would take Microsoft’s lead like they did with Quantum Break and move some of their major games to Spring.  My wallet and I would appreciate it!
