LEGO Batman Is The Best Batman! (Oh, Other Stuff Happened Too)

batman-lego

In probably the best DC Comics movie news of last week, and last week had had some great DC news, Batman from the LEGO Movie is getting his own flick in 2017!  Will Arnett’s version of the Caped Crusader was a lot of fun in the LEGO Movie, and he pretty much stole every scene he was in, so this is not that surprising, but it is good news.  I hope he brings the rest of the Justice League with him!

It looks like DC is really pumping the gas for its live action movies as well hiring Chris Terrio (Argo) to write the Justice League, and it looks like Brainiac will be the crew’s nemesis.  DC is also getting the script ready for a Suicide Squad movie.  Sadly Harley Quinn will not be in this version of the evil doer forced to be good franchise, but I am sure they are saving a roster spot for her in future films.  A Suicide Squad movie is really going to put the pressure on Sony to deliver a good Sinister Six film.

With all of these movies coming out, March 2016 can’t get here soon enough.  I can’t wait to get DC’s movie universe started.  For more information check out Latino Review!

The Flash Premiers!

the-flash

The CW launched their expanded universe Tuesday with The Flash, and I think they are going to be very successful.  The pilot had its flaws, but I think it set up the show for success.  Much like Gotham and Arrow, I think this show will get better as it goes.

The show obviously introduces us to Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), and how he becomes the fastest man alive.  He is hit by lightning due to a particle accelerator malfunction.  I don’t know of a more comic-booky origin than that, and then by the end of the show he is wearing the suit and saving lives.

That is the big problem with this pilot, they rushed through it.  They knew that they had to tell an origin story, but they also knew that people are over origin stories, so they kind of just got it over with.  I think it was the right choice because now they are free to tell whatever Flash story they want without him having to decided to be a hero or not.  He can still struggle with it, but he is already wearing the suit, so it will mostly just be introspection.

Grant Gustin did a good job as Barry Allen.  It is not the Barry Allen from the comic books, but he is a good change of pace from other heroes.  He is a geeky happy mix of Peter Parker and Wally West (The Younger Flash), but that works well.  We don’t need any more brooding.  The rest of that cast I am not sure about yet, but that is mostly because of the quick pace of the episode we didn’t get a chance to see what they can do.

I have high hopes for this show, and it has the potential to be very good.  Now that they got this show out of the way I hope they can start cashing in some of that potential.  I will be tuning in every week to see how they are progressing, and for now I recommend you do too.

Is Jena Malone Going To Be Robin?! (Or Batgirl)

jena-melone

Jena Malone who you may know as Johanna Mason from the Hunger Games movies may be in the new Batman V Superman flick.  She has visited the set, and the new hair color would be perfect for Carrie Kelley the female Robin character from the comic books.  Red hair could also be Harley Quinn or Barbara Gordon (Batgirl), or you know she may just like red hair, and it is a good look on her.  Her set visits could also just be that she is good friends with director Zack Snyder, and she just wants to check out one the biggest movies of 2016.  Heck I know I would.

Gotham Gets Better!

gotham

Last night’s Gotham episode “Selina Kyle” built on the solid pilot.  Without having to introduce all the characters this show really got to be the over-the-top procedural that it should be.  This episode is about kids getting snatched off the street and shipped overseas, and the only person who seems to care is James Gordon.

I am a little worried that Gotham is already a little too corrupt, and that it might need Batman a little sooner than young Bruce Wayne can don the cowl, but at least this series shows how bad the city is.  They still like to drop the names of Bat-villains a little too much, I am not sure I need many more than the ones they have already introduced, but it sounds like one of the bad guys they used in Arrow may soon be making an appearance.  I am curious how they will handle that, or if they are just having some fun at the audience’s expense.

I was worried about this show, but it looks like it is delivering on its potential, and we just have to wait a little longer to see how The Flash, Constantine, and iZombie turn out.  If even one of those shows is good DC will have a solid TV line up this year.

Listen To Some Pathfinder Tales!

plague-of-shadows

Thanks to PAX, I was able to get my hands on a couple of the Pathfinder Tales books based off the very popular table top RPG Pathfinder.  One book I like, and one book I am struggling to get through, but it seems to be getting better.

Plague of Shadows was a fun sword and sorcery romp about a woman trying to free the man she once loved from a curse.  It hits all the right notes, action, romance, dragons, and some elves.  It doesn’t take itself super seriously, but at the same time it tells a fun story.

Called to Darkness on the other hand has been kind of a slog.  It is a about a girl trying to get revenge for the murder of her family, so she trudges along with shaman and complains a lot, and every now and than she yells “Blacklion”.  It is fine, but not especially interesting or entertaining.

These books do provide good glimpse in to the world of Pathfinder, and let you know how all the races and monster types “live” in this universe.  I am not sure that I will read a lot more of these books, but I wouldn’t turn them down if they were given to me for free again.  If you are looking for a little light fantasy read, Pathfinder Tales may suit your needs.
