TV Should Be DC’s Earth 2!

justice league unlimited

A lot of people were sad to find out that DC was not going use The Flash and Arrow from the TV shows for their Justice League movies, but I think I have a solution that would make everyone happy.  They should just make the TV shows Earth 2.  For those of you that don’t read comic books, Earth 2 is the Earth in an alternate dimension.  It has most of that same superheroes but slightly different, and every once and awhile they need to travel interdimensionally to help each other out.

This would allow the movie guys and the TV guys to do whatever they want, but still team up at some point in the future.  Like say The Justice League Movie Part 2 where they fight the dimensional traveler Darkseid.  This would also free them up to do my second idea, and that is to rename The Flash and Arrow TV shows to the Justice Society of America (Earth 2’s Justice League).

I know what you are thinking, “But I like The Flash and Arrow!”, and you are right too, but they would still be in the show, leads in it even.  Just now they could highlight all the new heroes and villains they keep adding to the show every week, and better yet they could air it twice a week, or once a week all year long.  As a bonus if CBS lets Supergirl play in the same universe it could air three times a week, but once on a major local TV station.  It would be a lot of fun.

I am sure DC will not do either of these ideas because for some reason they like to ignore good fan ideas, but maybe we will get our TV Justice League …err Society, and our beloved TV characters on the big screen.

Shmee Visits The Ocean At The End Of The Lane!

ocean-at-the-end-of-the-lane-gaiman

I have been meaning to read Neil Gaiman’s latest book The Ocean at the End of the Lane since it came out, but it kept slipping my mind until he Tweeted that it was the perfect book for October, and you know what?  He was right (though I think it is the perfect book for any time of year).  That is not to say it is overly scary, but it does put the reader in a spooky mood.  It is a great book.

The story is about a young boy and his neighbors that claim their duck pond is an ocean.  That is all I am going to tell you since half of the fun with Gaiman’s books is finding out where his imagination will take you, and the pond sized ocean is a very small piece of it.

Now this is a small book, and not just in length, but its stakes and scope are small too.  Which is a nice change of pace for fantasy readers like myself who are always facing down the end of the world.  It is fun just to read a wonderus adventure of a small boy.  Plus Gaiman is able to fill his books with such seemingly effortless whimsy.  He writes like I wish I could.  As you can tell by my poor attempt at a book it must not be effortless.

Gaiman has said that this book fits in the universe he created with Stardust and The Graveyard Book, but I see it fitting in very well with Anansi Boys and American Gods.  Though now that I think about it all his books work well together and they create a universe I love to visit.

This is a wonderful book, and I would say that it is a great adventure for all readers above the age of thirteen.  Kids younger than that may like it too, but a parent should probably check it out first.  If you are older than thirteen you should go get a copy of The Ocean at the End of the Lane now.

We Finally Know DC’s Movie Plans!

Justice-League

Well after months of speculation Warner Brothers has finally taken the lid off of all their DC movie plans and they are as follows:

2016: Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice

2016: Suicide Squad

2017: Wonder Woman

2017: Justice League Part 1

2018: The Flash

2018: Aquaman

2019: Shazam!

2019: Justice League Part 2

2020: Cyborg

2020: Green Lantern (Reboot)

That is quite the list, and it lends credence to the rumor that they are filming the first Justice League movie right after BvS:DoJ.  They also said that they are working on solo Batman and Superman films, so shove those in there somewhere too.  They took the opportunity to announce who was going to play The Flash as well: Ezra Miller.  You can get a look at him below.

Not the typical superhero look, but he seems to be a good actor, and that is all that matters.  I am sure that he can put on a little body mass before his solo turn as the Scarlet Speedster.  I am a little sad they are not using Grant Gustin from the TV show, but this frees the show and the movies up to do what they want without having worry about continuity between the two universes.

I found it odd that they were going to do a Suicide Squad movie before all the solo JL member movies, but the more I think about it the more it makes sense.  They want to get all their heroes out on the table, so why not get their minor ones out there too.  It proves that DC has more good guys (even ones being forced to be good) than just Bats and Supes.  The Squad has also gotten a little notoriety by being featured on Arrow, so maybe that will help them sell tickets as well.

I am a little hurt that they announced this all at an investors meeting and not at some large geek event, but it is good to know their plans, and it looks like I will have a lot of movies to watch and review over the NEXT SIX YEARS.  Any thoughts on the list?  I would love to hear them.

The Civil War Starts With Captain America 3!

It looks like Captain America is going to feature Iron Man, and possibly setup the Civil War story line where all mutants need to register with S.H.I.E.L.D.  In the comics Stark is okay with this requirement, but Cap thinks it impedes on our civil liberties.  As you can guess this rips the mutant community apart.  This would be a fun story to start, and makes 2016 once again look like the best year in comic book movies yet.

Walking Dead Season 5 Starts With A Bang!

the-walking-dead-season-5-1

I am so used to slow starts with the Walking Dead that episode one “No Sanctuary” of this season took me totally off guard.  It told a coherent story, it was action packed, filled with tension, and well edited.  This may have been the best episode of the series so far.  Ever since Scott Gimple took over the writing for this show it has been getting much better, and it looks like that is going to continue.

I really want to talk about what happens, but there is no way to do it without giving everything away.  You will just have to watch it, and you will be happy that you did.  This episode sets up this year up for success, and I hope they can keep up this momentum because this episode was great.
