We Get To See Supergirl In Action!

I wasn’t going to talk about trailers all this week, but that terrible Jem and the Holograms trailer yesterday forced my hand, and now CBS released their trailer for their new show Supergirl.

The first thing I thought when watching this trailer was that you can tell it is being made by the same people making The Flash.  Same light tone and crazy action, so I was surprised by all the hate it was getting on social media.  Yeah it is not perfect, pilots rarely are, and it is clear that she is the female version of Clark Kent, and not the spunky teen cheerleader Linda Lee Danvers from the comic books, but that is fine.  It is what people are familiar with when a person named ‘Super’ is around.

The only thing I wasn’t a big fan of was the Devil Wears Prada rip-off with Calista Flockhart as her annoying boss.  If they can retool that part of the show before it launches next year that would help out a lot.  I am looking forward to it, and besides The Flash she will definitely be the biggest superhero on TV.  With all the superhero TV shows on the air now, there will not be a lot of time for shows not based off a comic books.  It is a hard time to be a geek.  There is just too much stuff to watch.

I Can’t Believe I Am Going To Say This … We Need To Talk About The Jem And The Holograms Trailer!

So what the heck was that?!  It wasn’t Jem and the Holograms!  There was no supercomputer named Synergy.  No crazy super earrings.  This a was just a terrible looking Disney Channel movie.  No wait, I take that back.  Disney probably would have made a rock and roll superhero movie, but they would have modernized it, still bad, but not this.  This has the 80’s glam but none of the superhero antics.  <sigh>  Speaking of antics, where are the Misfits?  Who is supposed to be trying to throw these girls off a cliff to become the number one band in the world even though they are in a completely different genre of music?  No one?  Just bad teenage relationship angst?  No thanks.

Universal could have had a fun crazy superhero movie targeted to young girls.  The first one that I have heard of.  They could have owned that market, but they blew it, and instead they made a generic looking bore fest.  Jem and the Holograms deserved better.  Watch the old cartoon it is bound to be more fun than this looks.

Well The Most Nervous Time Of Year Is Over!!

There is one time of year I am always running on high alert.  I have my phone strapped to me at all times, and that time of year is PAX Prime ticket season.  Oh man.  The tickets sell out so fast, and it is a tradition that I go.  Even in the down years it is something to see.  Well yesterday the notification came out, and my friends and I where on the ball, so sometime in September look for our hands-on wrap up PAX Prime 2015.  They say they are making several changes this year.  We will see if they are for the better or not.  If you were able to get your tickets in the fiftyish minutes they were available maybe I will see you there!  If not, watch this trailer for Netflix’s new show made by the Wachowskis.  It might make you feel better.

Can’t Wait For A New Bruce Timm DC Cartoon! Though It Might Not Be What You Expected…

I love the Bruce Timm DCU cartoons, so it is good to have him back, but if you were expecting something light an cheery, think again!  This online show features a Superman that is Zod’s son and a vampire Batman just to name a few changes, so things are a little screwed up.  It would be best to think of this as an Elseworlds tale.  That being the case it still looks pretty great, and I can’t wait to watch it!

While DC has some story telling issues with their comics every now and then, I do enjoy the fact they let creators run wild with even their top tier characters from time to time.  It helps if you are the best comic book cartoonist around, but they let people that aren’t Bruce Timm play too.  Sure that is why they have to reboot things much more often than Marvel, but I think it gives DC a much more broad collection of stories.

Who Will Martin Freeman Play In Captain America: Civil War?

Well in very late casting news Marvel has announced that Martin Freeman will be joining the cast of Captain America: Civil War.  Considering that movie’s production is well underway it is odd to cast such a high profile actor.  I am guessing he is going to be Tony Stark’s head of the hero registration.  Freeman is a world class pencil pusher, but that is no fun, so who does Shmee what him to be?  How about Captain Britain?

Why not?!  You can introduce interdimensional travel, and you could still have him on Tony’s team pushing pencils.  It is like a story telling double whammy.  They need more heroes for the Civil War, and Britain would give Tony a symbol to stand behind that shows he is just as ‘good/righteous’ as Steve Rodgers.  Then as an added benefit Marvel could team him up with Dr. Strange, and then the Sherlock buddies could cast magic and kick butt through the many dimensions of time-space.  How great would that be?!

Pretty great.  We will see shortly what Freeman is up to, and I am pretty sure Captain Britain is not it, but a Shmee can dream can’t he?  Here is to the Dr. Strange/Captain Britain/Sherlock buddy movie of our dreams.
