Why Even Make An Avatar 2?

avatar-poster-6

Now don’t get me wrong Fox has 2.8 Billion reasons to make Avatar 2, but it seems like James Cameron can’t find one.  Sure he keeps talking about the Avatar sequels, but he hasn’t really moved on them.  Now we are learning that Avatar 2 will not make it in time for its Christmas 2017 projected release date.  Some are saying this is because Disney has scared him off by moving Star Wars VIII to Christmas, but we all know this is just because James Cameron has decided he needs a little more time.

James Cameron is free to do what he likes, but I think he should just let Avatar go.  It was a landmark film when it came out, and it showed us what 3D digital filmography could do, but it hasn’t aged well.  Unlike most films I am not talking about the special effects, I am talking about the story.  Fern Gully/Dances with Wolves in space was thrilling and a great way to show off the technology, but the universe around it was ho-hum, and since it has been so long between sequels any great love people had for it is decaying.  If he could have gotten this movie out three or four years ago, maybe, but it has already been seven years since Avatar came out, and every year that passes it moves further out of the public consciousness.

I think he should just let Avatar be the great film that it was and move on.  He clearly has other things that he feels more passionate about, and that is what he should do.  If we do get an Avatar 2 at some point it will not be a labor of love, but an obligation that was fulfilled several years too late, and that would do a great disservice to a wonderful film and its fans.

Yesterday Was Christmas For DC Movie Fans! First Full Suicide Squad Trailer And First Look At Wonder Woman!

Thanks to the CW’s Justice League Universe Special we have a new Suicide Squad trailer, and it looks awesome!  I can’t wait to see the these bad guys save the world!

Then if that wasn’t enough we also get the fist footage for Wonder Woman!  There is not a lot to go on yet besides the fact she rides around on a horse a lot and enjoys big hats, but it is exciting none the less.

It is fun to see DC’s Movie Universe come together. I just hope that it is all good!

Care Bears Movie II: A New Generation Should Be Considered Child Abuse!

care-bears-2

You would have thought I would have learned my lesson about watching 80’s cartoon movies based purely on nostalgia with the She-Ra/He-Man Christmas Special, but no, when my wife and I were looking for a movie for Lil’ Shmee to watch we saw that the Care Bears Movie II: A New Generation was free On Demand and thought, “This will be fun!”.  It was not fun.  It was an hour’s worth of visual punishment.  Nothing about this ‘film’ made any sense, and it was some of the worst animation I have ever seen.

The ‘movie’ tells the origins of the titular Care Bears and their Care Bear Cousins while introducing the two founding Care Bears: True Heart Bear and Noble Heart Horse.  Meanwhile Dark Heart (pretty much Satan) is terrorizing the world’s longest and least supervised summer camp.  I can only guess that the camp counselors all died of boredom.  I mean the Care Bears and their Cousins grow up while these poor kids are still at camp.  Anyway, the Care Bears need to stop Dark Heart from making this camp exciting or something otherwise the world will fall under his influence.

I think my description of Care Bears Movie II: A New Generation makes it sound much more coherent than it is.  This ‘movie’ couldn’t follow a plotline if you held a gun to its figurative head.  Now I know this ‘film’ was pure advertising for two new Care Bears and Baby Care Bears, but it is bad when a He-Man Christmas movie has more artistic merit.  If I was the director and I read the ‘script’ I think I would have told to the writer, “Hey, I think you can do better!”  I mean, I know the ‘movie’ had a writer, I looked him up on its Wikipedia page.

I guess what I am saying is, if you have fond memories of Care Bears related media, your probably shouldn’t re-watch any of it.  It makes the stuff the kids watch today look like Shakespeare.  If the Care Bears Movie II: A New Generation is anything to go off of the 80’s were a cartoon sinkhole that should be filled in.  This ‘movie’ should not be watched under any circumstances.

Superman Is Not Fond Of Batman!

Superman is a scary dude in this clip from Batman V Superman that made its debut on Conan last night!  I don’t think I have ever seen Superman be more threating.  We will see if he is playing it up to scare Batman, or if he is really playing the villain.

This Conan interview of Zack Snyder also gave us some insights in to the new Batmobile.  Not as good as a clip from the movie, but still good!
