After A Long Super Bowl, These Are The Best Two Commercials!

After two Super Bowls featuring my Seattle Seahawks it was hard to watch two non-Seahawks teams face off in Super Bowl 50.  This must be how Patriots fans feel every other Super Bowl!  Well without anyone to root for and both teams doing their best not to move the ball down the field that meant the stars of the show were the commercials, and I have decided to share my favorites: best for a product and best for a movie.  First up the Kia Optima!

I love Christopher Walken! As a straight man I don’t mind telling you if he asked me to marry him I would say yes, and this Kia commercial uses him perfectly.  His baige socks versus fun socks speech encapsulates everything wonderful about him!  Bravo Kia! Bravo!

Next up, for my favorite movie trailer I went with Jason Bourne:

It was a hard call between this and Deadpool spot, but the Jason Bourne trailer was completely new, and the first look at this movie worked very well.  Matt Damon looks ready to reprise his most popular role, and it looks like they are holding the camera steady!  I know I will be seeing Jason Bourne when it comes out.

Those were my top two commercials, I would love to hear what yours were!

Shmee Finds Out What We Do In The Shadows!

what_we_do_in_the_shadows

What We Do in the Shadows by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi is the best mockumentary I have seen since ‘This is Spinal Tap’.  I laughed the whole way through.  The absurdity and the awkwardness of old-school vampires sharing a flat in Wellington New Zealand is just awesome.  The boys from Flight of the Concords really know their comedy.

This movie just gets everything right.  Like the fact for the most part no one thinks it is strange that a camera crew is following around a group of vampires, and how the vampires are completely clueless as to how modern society works.  It is a slow motion train wreck of comedy in the best possible sense.  I couldn’t believe some of the gags they put on screen.  Great stuff all around!

Of course this movie wouldn’t have worked without the actors’ complete commitment to being absurd, and these guys really do commit.  I am not sure how they got through any of their scenes with a straight face.  It must have taken them months to film What We Do in the Shadows just due to all the laugh-takes.

Most importantly this movie didn’t outlast its premises.  It is short, but I think too many comedies suffer because they try and pad the running time, but What We Do in the Shadows is eighty-five minutes of fun!  They only left in the really funny bits.  Other comedy directors should follow their example.

Quick note, this movie does earn its ‘R’ rating with gore and some swearing, so if those things offend you be warned.  For everyone else, if the thought of ‘This is Spinal Tap’ with vampires sounds funny, I can assure you that it is, and I can’t wait for the sequel ‘We’re Wolves’!  Though from what I hear it may be a long wait since all of these talented fellows now find themselves ‘in demand’.

From The Makers Of Coraline And ParaNorman: Kubo And The Two Strings!

Beattles music and katana! I am soooooo in!  I mean, I am generally in for whatever LAIKA makes, but this movie hits all the right notes for me (Notes, get it? I am so darn clever!  You are sooooo lucky to have me as a virtual friend).  It is going to be hard to wait for August for this to come out.  I guess I will have to bide my time watching the eight-million comic book movies coming out this year.

PlanetSide Warhammer 40,000? Yes Please!

To be fair the game is called Warhammer 40k: Eternal Crusade, but it is pretty much a PlanetSide clone using the Warhammer 40k license, and that is just aces with me!  For those of you that don’t know, PlanetSide is a persistent online first person shooter with different factions fighting for territory.  This game is described the same way except it is third person shooter, but the difference is minimal, and I am super excited!  For a more gameplay focused look at the game check out this video:

The game looks a little rough right now, but the dev, Behaviour Interactive, says they are focusing on gameplay first, so that is actually quite encouraging.  You can play right now if you are willing to pay for ‘Early Access’ through Steam, but since the game comes out in May, I think I will just wait for reviews.  Even so, it is an exciting concept that I hope turns out well!
