Things Get Real In Batman The Telltale Series Episode 3!

batman-telltale

Batman: The Telltale Series is one of the best Batman year two stories ever told.  A young Bruce Wayne struggling with his past, and trying to get a handle on being Batman and Bruce.  In the first two episodes you had no real idea about the consequences of your decisions, but things are starting to take shape in Episode Three, and for me they are not good.  Good story-wise, but bad for The Bat.

I would love to just sit here and write down all the great stuff in Episode Three, but that would spoil it for you, and I don’t want to do that.  What I want to do is tell you that if you like Batman, you should be playing this game.  It is out on just about every platform known to man, so there is no excuse not to be playing it.  I cannot wait to see if I can fix the problems I have created for myself in the first few episodes.

We are only a year away from a new Red Dead Redemption game!  That is amazing news!  Red Dead Redemption is the finest western game of all time, so its sequel is now probably the most anticipated game for 2017.  You had better believe that I will have the new trailer up on Shmee.me Thursday at 11AM Eastern!  If you don’t want to believe the news from me, here it is from the horses mouth!

Shmee Takes A Trip With Lego Batman 3 Goes Beyond Gotham!

lego-batman-3-beyond-gotham

Do you like Batman?  Do you like the same Lego game that Traveller’s Tales has been making for years?  Then you will like Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham.  Since this is like the 9 Millionth Lego game they have created it makes the game kind of hard to review.  You play as Lego mini-figs, you beat stuff up and collect studs, and then you finish the game.  Then you play through the game again with all your new characters and cheats to unlock everything.

There are a few things that are different, for better or worse.  For instance several characters have several different outfits, so you will need to change them constantly, and you don’t unlock the hub world (The Watchtower) until half way through the game.  Other than that what makes this game unique is the sheer amount of DC content.

Pretty much every DC hero and villain is in the game, and it is a lot of fun to use their abilities while collecting them all.  Really that is what the Lego games are all about.  Collecting your favorite characters, and Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham is a massive success in that regard.

If you are looking for a cheap and fun diversion Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham is worth your time and money.  If you are kind of done with the Lego games, this game is no different, and it will not change your mind.  I love DC, and I love Lego, so I am having a great time.

Shmee Gleefully Terrorizes Australia In Forza Horizon 3!

Forza Horizon 3 Horizontal Key Art

They say money can’t buy happiness, but they are wrong.  It can be purchased for around $60 on Xbox One or PC.  Forza Horizon 3 is the culmination of all the previous Forza games.  It is the game we didn’t know we were waiting for.  For everyone who doesn’t want to waste time reading this review, Forza Horizon 3 is freaking great, and you should be playing it.

In Forza Horizon 3 you take the role of the boss running the Horizon festival, and this time the festival is in Australia.  You draw fans to your festival by racing and doing crazy stunts.  The more fans you have the more venues you can open.  The more venues that you open the more races and crazy stunts you can take part in.  Or if you want, you can just dive around Australia at high speeds and do whatever you want.

Technically Forza Horizon 3 is a racing game, but that isn’t quite right.  While you will spend a lot of time racing in Forza Horizon 3, what actually is, is a driving game.  A game that strives to bring you the joy of getting behind the wheel of a fast car and screwing around and doing ridiculous things.  Things like driving a 1973 XB GT Ford Falcon Coupe (the Mad Max car) through the wine country, literally through it, while listening to Flight of the Valkyries and earning a crazy amount of skill points.  It is glorious.

I have heard some people describe Forza Horizon 3 as a CarPG because of the never ending loop of getting XP, unlocking cars, and gaining new races, but that description doesn’t quite fit.  Sure there are not one, but three different progression systems: XP to give you random cars and cash, fans to give you new venues, and skill points to give more ways to earn XP, fans and skill points, but in the end what Forza Horizon 3 is a joy machine that works better the faster you go.

Forza Horizon 3 isn’t perfect.  It doesn’t do a good job of differentiating between trees that you can mow over and ones that will stop you in your tracks, and the AI car pop-in can be slow to the point of randomly having mini-vans show up mere feet in front of you.  No doubt that at blindingly fast speeds cars can seemingly appear out of nowhere, but not out of thin air.  Also if you are going to get this for PC, you are going to need a pretty beefy rig.  Still in the light of everything that Forza Horizon 3 does well these are very minor foibles.

I don’t have the credentials to say that Forza Horizon 3 is the greatest racing game of all time, but I will say that it is my favorite racing game, and it is working its way up my all time favorite games list, racing or otherwise.  I still have a lot of game left to play with Forza Horizon 3, so my attitude about it may change, but I doubt it.  Go out and get Forza Horizon 3 for Xbox One or PC now!  You know, unless you hate fun.

You Finally Get To Hang Out With The Riffraff In Fallout 4’s Nuka-World!

fallout-4-nuka-world-official-tr

One of Fallout 4‘s problems, with the exception of the Institute, is that you are never able to be one of the bad guys.  You can be kind of bad, but you are still forced to do the right thing, so at most you can be kind of a jerk.  Bethesda seeks to change all that with Nuka-World.

Nuka-World is the last Bethesda created DLC (though there are plenty of mods to keep you busy), and the first time the game lets you hang out with Raiders.  In fact you become leader of the Raiders after the first 30 minutes, and after you clean out the titular Nuka-World with them you can lead them to capture and destroy the Commonwealth.  Remember all those settlements you helped?  Well you can now destroy them then give them to Raiders, and considering how annoying the settlements are they kind of have it coming.

Over all Fallout 4: Nuka-World is a fun little expansion with a really cool new place to visit and explore, and it finally lets you be the villain you have always wanted to be.  However, it is still just Fallout 4, so if you are done with the game, and considering some of us have several real days worth of play time invested I don’t blame you, there is nothing that changes the game too dramatically that makes Nuka-World a must play, but if you cannot wait to head back out to the wasteland, Nuka-World is as good an excuse as any.
