I got Sleeping Dogs for Christmas this year from my little brother. I just now got around to playing it due to lack of time and a giant backlog of games to play, but I am glad I did. It seems like it would be a basic GTA open world clone, and for the most part I guess it is, but it is slickly produced and a lot of fun to play.
You play has an under cover cop trying to take down the triads of Hong Kong, and to do this you try and gain their trust by committing low level crimes and appearing to help them move their drugs around, but since you are cop you also do police work and get bad guys arrested.
The thing that really sets this game from others in the genre is that they developed a really fun hand to hand fighting system that makes you feel like you are playing a Kung-Fu movie. It is almost a shame when they add guns to the mix because the fighting is so much fun. You also gain levels, which let you add new moves and character bonuses like reduced damage when getting hit.
The games does have it flaws, like the fact you can just run over people and kill civilians at random with no consequences even though you are an officer of the law, and the enemy AI are as dumb as bricks, and the story really is not that great, but these are minor things, so if you have time you should still check out this game. It should be at a reduced price by now too as an added bonus.
