We Know When The Gambit Movie Opens!

gambit

Well my favorite member of the X-Men is finally getting his big screen debut (I am not counting X-Men Origins: Wolverine), and we now know the date: October 7th, 2016!  Channing Tatum revealed this on his Twitter account and it was later confirmed by Fox, so it looks like we will be getting two standalone X-Man movies in 2016 (Deadpool is the other), and I can cross a superhero without a movie off my list.  If for some reason you forgot what Channing Tatum looks like here is his mug:

Channing-Tatum

I can believe how many comic book movies are coming out in 2016.  I wonder if that will be the year the bubble pops on the comic book superhero movie, and we have to go back to standard boring action movies?  I hope not.

Good Omens Is A Radio Play, Listen Now!

GoodOmens-Hard-2006

Did you know that BBC Radio 4 turned Neil Gaiman and Terry Prtachett’s (also I have never reviewed a Discworld book, huh) Good Omens in to a radio show?  Well they did, you can listen to the whole thing here.  I have only listened to the first episode, but it was pretty great, so I thought I would spread the news along.  I will give you my take on the whole thing later, but since you only have 19 days to listen to the first half of the show, I though I would let you know now.

Good listening, and don’t let the apocalypse get you down.

Shmee’s Most Anticipated Movies For 2015!

I loved the movies from 2014, but something tells me 2015 is going to be something special!  Why?  I will show you why with my Most Anticipated Movies For 2015 List!

5: Jupiter Ascending

I probably shouldn’t be excited about this movie since it was on my list for 2014, and moving a movie around is usually a sign that the studio doesn’t have any faith in it, but the Wachowski siblings haven’t totally let me down yet.  Plus I can’t stay away from a space opera!

4: Mad Max: Fury Road

I wasn’t excited about this film when it was first announced, but thanks to a wonderfully insane trailer, I am pumped for this film.  So much so that I ordered the last three movies on Blu-Ray to get ready.  You will get my review on those flicks after I watch them again.

3: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2

The-Hunger-Games-Mockingjay-Part-1-Movie-Wallpaper

This series took a step back with Mockingjay Part 1, but I think Part 2 will be a return to form.  It is a shame they didn’t just do one movie, but they managed not to kill my excitement for this franchise.  You will know were to find me in November.

2: The Avengers: Age Of Ultron

The first Avengers movie was one of the biggest of all time, so there is a lot riding on this movie, but Disney hasn’t let me down yet.  I am betting this movie is going to be great!  If this was any other year this would be my number one movie, but this is not any other year.  Which brings me to number one!

1: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Oh man a new Star Wars movie!!!!  I know the prequels should have should have me doubting this movie, but I can’t.  It is a freaking Star Wars movie, and then the trailer was pitch perfect.  Christmas can’t get here fast enough.

Well there you have it, now you know what movies I am looking forward too, and amazingly this list only had one comic book movie, which considering my Top for 2014 list and the number of comic book movies coming out next year that is pretty incredible.  What is your 2015 list?

Don’t Read Dragonlord Of Mystara!

dragonlord-of-mystara

Generally D&D based books are not going to be award winners, but Dragonlord of Mystara has got to rank among the worst of them.  It was written in 1994 by Thorarinn Gunnarsson.  Which according to Wikipedia is a pen name, and that makes sense because if I had written this book I wouldn’t want my name on it either.  I thought my book was bad, but I am feeling better about myself now.

Like all bad fantasy books (mine included), Dragonlord of Mystara is about an orphan, and wouldn’t you guess he is destined for something special.  He is also of an unknown race living amongst people who dislike outsiders, so you know that Gunnarsson was really swinging for the fences as far as fantasy tropes go.  He goes on a quest to discover his past, and it all gets worse from there.

This book starts out in the so bad it is funny category, but then quickly devolves to just being so bad it is hard to read.  If it had stayed over the top bad, I might have been able to suggest it to small subset of fantasy readers as a farce, but no this book insists that no one like it.  Sadly it is unsuccessful at even that, I have read on Amazon that a few people did actually enjoy this book, but they are all dragon lovers, and any book that treats dragons as smart and non-monstrous is a winner.  They are wrong, and I am sorry they have so few books to read to satisfy them.

There are two more books in the series (because everything in fantasy is a trilogy, especially bad fantasy), I shudder to think what horrors Gunnarsson has loosed on the art of writing in those tomes.  I will never know because I stop my journey with Thelvyn Fox Eyes here!  Oh, did I say that was the main character’s name?  I didn’t, but terrible books deserve terrible reviews!

Playing With The 7″ Kindle Fire HDX!

7-inch-Kindle-Fire-HDX-tablet

I recently got a 7″ Kindle Fire HDX, and I have to say that I am quite happy with it.  It has a good looking screen, and while it doesn’t have all the apps of Google Play, it has more than enough to keep me entertained, but really what I use it for is a comic book reader.

It is the perfect size for comics, and the screen makes the colors pop.  While I like physical comics better, they look great on the HDX.  I was hoping since comiXology was now owned by Amazon that the app would be more integrated like their own comic books, which shows how far through the book I am, and the book shows up on the start screen.  Still, it works well, and there is time for Amazon to improve the integration.

Other than that it is a pretty standard tablet.  It plays music and videos, and it lets me make Skype calls with its front facing camera.  Nothing too exciting, but if it didn’t do those things it would be a pretty lame tablet.  Amazon is also making an investment in video games buying a couple of well known studios, Double Helix for one, so there should be a lot of decent things to play if Strider and Killer Instinct Season One are anything to go by.

If you are looking for something that does everything, this is not that tablet, but if you are looking for a fast and cheap comic book reader that almost does everything, you could do a whole lot worse.  I am having fun with mine, and I am sure that you would enjoy it too.  Plus if you ever want it to be a plain Google tablet you can always root it.  Maybe that will be a post in the near future.
