Is Jena Malone Going To Be Robin?! (Or Batgirl)

jena-melone

Jena Malone who you may know as Johanna Mason from the Hunger Games movies may be in the new Batman V Superman flick.  She has visited the set, and the new hair color would be perfect for Carrie Kelley the female Robin character from the comic books.  Red hair could also be Harley Quinn or Barbara Gordon (Batgirl), or you know she may just like red hair, and it is a good look on her.  Her set visits could also just be that she is good friends with director Zack Snyder, and she just wants to check out one the biggest movies of 2016.  Heck I know I would.

Gotham Gets Better!

gotham

Last night’s Gotham episode “Selina Kyle” built on the solid pilot.  Without having to introduce all the characters this show really got to be the over-the-top procedural that it should be.  This episode is about kids getting snatched off the street and shipped overseas, and the only person who seems to care is James Gordon.

I am a little worried that Gotham is already a little too corrupt, and that it might need Batman a little sooner than young Bruce Wayne can don the cowl, but at least this series shows how bad the city is.  They still like to drop the names of Bat-villains a little too much, I am not sure I need many more than the ones they have already introduced, but it sounds like one of the bad guys they used in Arrow may soon be making an appearance.  I am curious how they will handle that, or if they are just having some fun at the audience’s expense.

I was worried about this show, but it looks like it is delivering on its potential, and we just have to wait a little longer to see how The Flash, Constantine, and iZombie turn out.  If even one of those shows is good DC will have a solid TV line up this year.

Gotham Gets TV Season Off To A Good Start!

gotham

I was a little skeptical of the TV show Gotham, but it has at least got me interested enough to keep watching it.  The show follows new Detective James Gordon as he tries to fight crime in the completely corrupt Gotham City.  His first big case is of course the murders of Thomas and Martha Wayne, and he is in way over his head.

I think they got the tone of this show right.  Thanks to its comic book roots it is crazy and a little over the top, but it still manages to take itself seriously so that it doesn’t seem like a farce.  It did suffer a little bit because they tried to introduce too many characters, so it didn’t really ever focus on what was going on enough.  For instance they kept showing young Selina Kyle, but she never really did anything,  Next week’s episode is named after her, so maybe it will make more sense.

The show seems to have a good cast, and the sets bring Gotham to life.  We will see if they can build off this episode in to something really good, or if they get lost in the weeds, and it becomes yet another canceled FOX TV show.  For now it looks like FOX is my home for Monday nights.

Who Will Be Shazam?!

superman-shazam-black-adam

Since Dwayne Johnson threw everyone for a loop when he announced that he would be the villain Black Adam and not Shazam himself that means we need to find someone to do battle with the former Captain Marvel!  This one is a little tricky since the actor will need to be older to separate him from the actor that will be playing his child alter ego Billy.  But I think I found a good group of guys!

5: Vin Diesel

Vin-Diesel

This one is kind of a stretch because I am sure that he is under contract with Marvel for Groot, and he has been hinting that he will soon be announced as an Inhuman for a future Marvel movie, but audiences would line up to see The Rock face off against Diesel again, or least that is what the Fast and Furious movies keep telling me.

4: Luke Hemsworth

Now I am not sure about the eldest Hemsworth brother’s acting talent, but it would be fun to have a little sibling DC versus Marvel rivalry, and he seems like the bulkiest of the bros.  I think it would be fun, and fun is something that the DC movies need.

3: Jon Hamm

Jon-Hamm

He would need to work out a little bit, but what twelve year old boy doesn’t want to look like Jon Hamm when they are older?  He has proven with 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live that he could handle this fun character very well.

2: Joe Manganiello

I know I use him a lot, but he is like 6’5″ and has a 36 pack, so I will keep using him in my lists until he is wearing a cape.  Plus if they are worried about his acting they needn’t be since with Shazam all he has to do is fight and pose because the younger actor with be doing all the character work.

1: Brandon Routh

I know he just signed on to play The Atom in The Flash TV show, but I think it would be a fun crossover.  Plus the reason DC has Shazam at all is because they sued the creator because he looked too much like Superman, so why not have a former Superman play Shazam!  It would be fun, and he was not the reason Superman Returns did not live up to expectations.

That is my list for Shazam, and I am sure that they will use none of these actors to fill this spot, but one day they will listen to me!  Who would you pick?

Deadpool Gets His Day!

deadpool

It was only a matter of time before Fox decided to do a Deadpool movie.  Besides the X-Men themselves, Deadpool is the most popular character they have got, and to keep him sidelined for long just didn’t make sense.  The date they picked was perfect too: Valentines Day weekend 2016.  What is a better date movie than one about a jerky loudmouthed mercenary?

They haven’t announced who will star in the movie yet, but due to its rapidly approaching date, I am sure that it is <sigh> Ryan Reynolds, but we will see.  As much Reynolds has killed a lot of other superhero movies, this is the role that I would pick him for.  If they don’t announce it is him soon it may be time for me to get out the casting couch.

2016 is shaping up to be a good year: Deadpool, Batman V Superman, Captain America, and Shazam!  That is a lot of comic book movies, and I can’t wait.
