Random DC Comics News!

Justice-League

A couple quick DC Comics things to talk about today.  The boys and gals over at Ain’t It Cool News were reporting that the Batman V Superman flick would be split up in to two movies.  One would have opened on Batman V Superman’s original date of October 23rd 2015 called Enter The Knight, and the second one would have come out on the new date of March 26th 2016 with the title Dawn of Justice.

Superman himself Henry Cavill shot this rumor down over at Variety, but still it is an interesting idea.  My problem with this movie is that they are trying to do to much with one film, kind of the opposite problem the Hobbit movies had.  With two movies it would have given the stories more of a chance to breath instead of just being thrown together.  Plus October is a month that they could have had pretty much to themselves.  Still, there was too much going against this story for it to be true because with movies this big there are a lot of moving parts with distribution, advertising and toy sales, so to all of the sudden announce a new movie for October would be crazy.  You move a movie back, not five months forward.

Next up a little TV news.  According to Entertainment Weekly the CW is thinking of adding another comic book show to its lineup, and the hero that makes the most sense is Brandon Routh’s Atom.  Sure they could pick someone else, but Routh is a great actor with real screen presence, so it is hard to imagine some other hero getting the nod.  They could be still trying to startup Hourman, but since I haven’t heard anything about him recently, I am guessing he will not be showing up anytime soon.  The other hero they might try is Firestorm recently seen on The Flash, but I don’t think they have invested enough time in him to get audiences to care about him.  Yet.

Lastly according to IGN, it looks like Supergirl has a shot of being seen on The Flash or Arrow, or conversely them showing up on her show.  Greg Berlanti seems to think it is possible, but he wants to do what is right for Supergirl first.  Still at least there is a possibility.  If the crossover does happen I can’t wait to see what Earth ending apocalypse the joint forces of Arrow, The Flash, The Atom, Firestorm and Supergirl would have to face.

Ant-Man Trailer Is A Go!

I thought this trailer was going to come sooner, but here it is.  I will have to say that the first part of this trailer scared me a bit because it was so serious, but then the ending sets the tone I am looking for.  Funny.  Ant-Man is supposed to be funny.  Which is why I was so excited about Edgar Wright doing it, but I do understand that Disney wants this to be Marvel’s Ant-Man not Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man.  Though that is what The Paladin wanted, and I can’t say I blame him.  Maybe someday Disney will let people do different takes on its heroes, but probably not any time soon.

We Know When The Gambit Movie Opens!

Well my favorite member of the X-Men is finally getting his big screen debut (I am not counting X-Men Origins: Wolverine), and we now know the date: October 7th, 2016!  Channing Tatum revealed this on his Twitter account and it was later confirmed by Fox, so it looks like we will be getting two standalone X-Man movies in 2016 (Deadpool is the other), and I can cross a superhero without a movie off my list.  If for some reason you forgot what Channing Tatum looks like here is his mug:

Channing-Tatum

I can believe how many comic book movies are coming out in 2016.  I wonder if that will be the year the bubble pops on the comic book superhero movie, and we have to go back to standard boring action movies?  I hope not.

Shmee’s Most Anticipated Movies For 2015!

I loved the movies from 2014, but something tells me 2015 is going to be something special!  Why?  I will show you why with my Most Anticipated Movies For 2015 List!

5: Jupiter Ascending

I probably shouldn’t be excited about this movie since it was on my list for 2014, and moving a movie around is usually a sign that the studio doesn’t have any faith in it, but the Wachowski siblings haven’t totally let me down yet.  Plus I can’t stay away from a space opera!

4: Mad Max: Fury Road

I wasn’t excited about this film when it was first announced, but thanks to a wonderfully insane trailer, I am pumped for this film.  So much so that I ordered the last three movies on Blu-Ray to get ready.  You will get my review on those flicks after I watch them again.

3: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2

This series took a step back with Mockingjay Part 1, but I think Part 2 will be a return to form.  It is a shame they didn’t just do one movie, but they managed not to kill my excitement for this franchise.  You will know were to find me in November.

2: The Avengers: Age Of Ultron

The first Avengers movie was one of the biggest of all time, so there is a lot riding on this movie, but Disney hasn’t let me down yet.  I am betting this movie is going to be great!  If this was any other year this would be my number one movie, but this is not any other year.  Which brings me to number one!

1: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Oh man a new Star Wars movie!!!!  I know the prequels should have should have me doubting this movie, but I can’t.  It is a freaking Star Wars movie, and then the trailer was pitch perfect.  Christmas can’t get here fast enough.

Well there you have it, now you know what movies I am looking forward too, and amazingly this list only had one comic book movie, which considering my Top for 2014 list and the number of comic book movies coming out next year that is pretty incredible.  What is your 2015 list?

Playing With The 7″ Kindle Fire HDX!

7-inch-Kindle-Fire-HDX-tablet

I recently got a 7″ Kindle Fire HDX, and I have to say that I am quite happy with it.  It has a good looking screen, and while it doesn’t have all the apps of Google Play, it has more than enough to keep me entertained, but really what I use it for is a comic book reader.

It is the perfect size for comics, and the screen makes the colors pop.  While I like physical comics better, they look great on the HDX.  I was hoping since comiXology was now owned by Amazon that the app would be more integrated like their own comic books, which shows how far through the book I am, and the book shows up on the start screen.  Still, it works well, and there is time for Amazon to improve the integration.

Other than that it is a pretty standard tablet.  It plays music and videos, and it lets me make Skype calls with its front facing camera.  Nothing too exciting, but if it didn’t do those things it would be a pretty lame tablet.  Amazon is also making an investment in video games buying a couple of well known studios, Double Helix for one, so there should be a lot of decent things to play if Strider and Killer Instinct Season One are anything to go by.

If you are looking for something that does everything, this is not that tablet, but if you are looking for a fast and cheap comic book reader that almost does everything, you could do a whole lot worse.  I am having fun with mine, and I am sure that you would enjoy it too.  Plus if you ever want it to be a plain Google tablet you can always root it.  Maybe that will be a post in the near future.
